Ellen Lang

Ellen Lang is a classically trained soprano who graduated from Bethpage High School in 1967.  She was active in the BHS Chorus and Drama clubs.  Ellen went on to study at SUNY Buffalo.  She currently sings in the full-time chorus at The Metropolitan Opera.   These are highly coveted positions as they are the only full-time singing jobs in the world.  Ellen has also soloed in at the Met in Tosca, Der Rosenkavalier, and Jenufa.  She has appeared on stage with Placido Domingo, Renee Fleming, and Luciano Pavarotti.

Ellen was the recipient of several Rockefeller grants that permitted her to study voice in Europe.  A language “maven,” she has sung in English, Italian, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Czech, Hungarian and Russian and hopes to add more languages to her list. She has also performed major roles with the Baltimore Opera, Pennsylvania Opera Theatre and has appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Icelandic Philharmonic, and the New York Oratorio Society at Carnegie Hall.  Among her many awards, she won first prize in the prestigious Concert Artists Guild International Competition.

Ellen helped found a group called Live from New York, which has created “boutique” shows that have sold out for many years at the Lincoln Center Music Library.  Ellen is also a Professor of Voice Study, having taught both at the University of Delaware and Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

She has lived all over the world, but considers herself a devoted New Yorker who currently resides in Manhattan.  She is thrilled to be back at her alma mater.
