Al Blau & the 1968-69 Wrestling Team

Al Blau was a Science teacher at Bethpage High School from 1962 to 1998 Certified in Earth Science, he was a mainstay of the BHS Science Department, known for his cool mustache and his booming voice.  Al has four sons- Brett, Alex, Peter, and Nate- and seven grandchildren.  His wife Erica had a distinguished career as a Family & Consumer Science teacher at the JFK Middle School.

Al was also a legendary coach at Bethpage HS in both JV Football and Varsity Wrestling. He was inducted into the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1992 as well as being inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 in recognition of his lacrosse officiating career.

Al and the 1968-69 Wrestling team had a legendary year winning the Division Championship.  They were the first undefeated wrestling team in school history.  They won the final dramatic match of the year against Mineola.
