Central
Boulevard's art program is designed to provide experiences in art in
which the students will not only create art, but will also develop an
awareness and appreciation of art and its place in our cultural heritage.
An interdisciplinary approach to art activities is employed to introduce
skills and experiences that utilize the students enthusiasm for discovery
and inventiveness, to build a foundation for art expression, knowledge
about art, art criticism and visual literacy. Through your child's active
participation in the art program, they will be developing perceptual
awareness and problem solving skills, as well as the exploring their
creativity through a variety of media and ideas. The visual arts are
an essential part of a comprehensive education. Please help us expand
Central Boulevard's art program beyond the walls of the art room! Support
and encourage your child's artistic expression!
HOW
TO HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED IN ART
Your
encouragement and support are the greatest gift your child has. Make
sure he/she has a place to work and keep their materials out and accessible.
Having the talent to create something is not so important as the process
of creating. Nothing will stall him/her faster than having to put everything
away every time his/her space is needed for something "more important."
I tell the students that each and every one of them is an artist, but
they must practice and try new things until they discover their "specialty"
for themselves, be it in the visual arts or another art
writing,
music, cooking, etc. Allowing your child the space to explore their
creativity is essential to developing their abilities in the arts. Another
very important element in becoming an artist is to create something
every day (practice, practice and more practice). This will help your
child to make all of those wonderful discoveries. Ask your child what
they are learning about in art class. Take them to museums, draw with
them, or ask them to teach you something. When you show children that
you care, that is the best route to your child's success.
