WELCOME BACK
This school year has gotten off to a great start so far. Mrs. Girolamo and I have been busy meeting all the new children and getting reaquainted with our students from last year.

It was great to see my old students again and meet the new children who will be in my program this year. Be sure to say "hi" when we pass in the hall or if I come into your new classroom.

Parents, read on for further information about the speech and language program.

The Speech Notebook

Your child is required to bring a hard covered notebook to class for homework assignments which are short exercises reviewing the target areas addressed in class. The speech notebook must be brought to class every session. I will inform you if your child misses three assignments in a row. You will find your child's sticker chart in the back of the notebook which will be used as a record of completed homework assignments with parental signatures.

Please use your child's notebook as a communication book for any questions, comments or concerns which may come up during the year.

Your Child's IEP

The students in the Speech Impaired Program as well as those recieving Speech as a Related Service are required to have an Individual Education Plan which has been devised according to the areas in need of remediation. All students will be scheduled according to the mandates outlined in their Individual Education Plan. The IEP will be sent home four times a year with specific notes on the status of each goal. Please review your child's IEP. The codes for each level of mastery are as follows:

* -See Comments

P- Progressing satisfactorily

S- Some progress

C- Completed

N- Not addressed

D- Discontinued

Parent conferences will be scheduled as needed as well as during regularly scheduled conference dates. Please feel free to contact me at any time with regard to concerns or questions.

Homework: Parents as Partners

Homework is given as a way for you to see what your child is working on in speech and to provide a review of the specific IEP goals addressed in the previous sessions. Since most of the assignments require either an oral response or auditory directions it is most beneficial for them to be done with a "speech helper", preferably a parent, who must be sign the sheet after it is completed. These activities should be redone between sessions as a practice and review activity. If you notice any specific problems please drop me a note.
