What’s Up This Week in Ms. Kane’s Class:

1/6

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation. This week we had a 21st Century Class with Mrs. Marcis.  We identified owl pellet bones and began creating our final projects.  In Social Studies, we finished Chapter 3 on the first people of New York including the Iroquois and the Algonkian. We created a PowerPoint presentation depicting what life was like for the people of the Eastern Woodlands. We continue to study electricity in Science. We had a brief discussion about immigration and how it relates to our new story in L.A. To make our writing more interesting, we are focusing on adding more details and using vivid language. In Math, we continue to multiply 2 digits by 2 digit numbers.

1/13

This week in Language Arts, we read a story called, “My Diary from Here to There”. We used clues from the story to help us make inferences. In Grammar, we worked on spelling plural nouns correctly. In Math, we are working on multiplying 3 digits by 2 digit numbers. Please study math facts every night. We compared parallel circuits to series circuits in Science. Please continue to work on your Science Fair projects at home. “Designing the Investigation” is due on Jan. 20.

1/20

This four day work week seemed to go so fast. In Language Arts, we have been practiced our listening and note taking skills. We learned about photosynthesis and finished up on Photosynthesis posters in Science.  We continued to multiply with greater numbers and took a chapter 7 math test this week.

1/27

The students took the NWEA test during computer time to monitor their progress from the beginning of the year. We took a science test on plant parts, their function, and photosynthesis. In Language Arts, we are reading a nonfiction article called, “Stealing Beauty.”  We are working on distinguishing fact and opinion. In Math, we are starting a new chapter on Geometry. As the Science Fair approaches, the students handed in their paragraphs about their projects this Friday.
