
How to Meditate on the Joys of English
There are many ways one may meditate on the joys of English. For example, one may ponder the personalities of the characters we have met through our literature studies. One may reflect upon the strengths and weaknesses of these characters, as well as the choices they make as they confront various conflicts. Furthermore, one may think about the increase in one's vocabulary and writing skills which occurs as a result of our study of the English language.
In addition, there are certain human abilities which the study of language/literature sharpens. Here are a few:
1. Intellectual Curiosity
2. Objectivity
3. Open-mindedness
4. Flexibility of Thought
5. Intellectual Skepticism
6. Intellectual Honesty
7. Systematic Approaches to Ideas
8. Persistence
9. Decisiveness
10. Respect for Other Viewpoints
In order to effectively meditate on the above Joys of English, you should follow these steps:
1. Look up the definition of each term in the dictionary.
2. If you do not understand the definition of the term, ask an adult for an explanation. You may attend help class to discuss the defintions with me.
3. Think of how a particular skill could be or has been enhanced by your study of language/literature.
