Junior Great Books is a course designed to introduce young readers to great works of literature in a safe environment. The purpose of Junior Great Books is to give students an opportunity to read, discuss, and enjoy literary works to which they might not otherwise be exposed. Using the Shared Inquiry Method, students participate in open-ended discussion of literature. The teacher's role is to guide the students toward respectful consideration of the contributions of all class members. In addition, the teacher guides students toward a sharpening of critical thinking skills and an application of literature to their own lives.
