Ten little English students sitting in a line

One wrote upon his desk, and then there were nine.

Nine students hurrying so they wouldn't be late.

One wasn't punctual, and then there were eight.

Eight students reading 'bout an island in Devon

One came without his book, and then there were seven.

Seven students struggling through grammar with tricks

One said her pen ran out, and then there were six.

Six students wrapping gum so they'd stay alive

One spit his in the pail, and then there were five.

Five students reading 'bout justice and law

One failed a chapter quiz, and then there were four.

Four students writing script, flowing and free

One asked if she could print, and then there were three.

Three students working on homework soon due

One asked if spelling counts, and then there were two.

Two little English students, absent was one
He asked, "Did I miss anything?"--and then there was one.

One little English student left all alone

She asked what date it was, and then there were none.
