Routines and Procedures

1)      Before class:

a.       On orchestra days, leave your instrument in the cabinet on stage in the auditorium before

school (violins and violas only).

b.      At the end of 7th period, go directly to the stage and get your instrument.  Bring it in the case

to room 118.  Be in the classroom by 1:47 PM.

c.       Put your case on the floor around the room’s perimeter, rosin your bow, get your instrument

out, line up to tune.

d.      While students are in line tuning, get your folder and pencil and place them on your music stand.

e.       After you tune, get your folder and pencil, and sit in your assigned seat.

f.        If there is no music stand, get one.  Place your folder and pencil on the stand.

g.       Sit quietly and wait for Mr. Kay to finish tuning the other students.

2)      During class:

a.       Please remain seated during class, unless you are going to use the pass.

b.      You may use the pass to go to the bathroom.  One person at a time.  Bathroom use only.  Sign out in the book.

c.       When I am away from my stand, you may talk quietly.  When I am at my music stand, I expect silence.  Raise your hand if you have a question.

d.      If the alarm sounds, line up and walk quietly to the designated area outside.  Stay together so I can take attendance outside.  We exit room 118 to the right and go out the main entrance to the nearest grassy area.

e.       If you need to see the nurse, take the pass and go.  If the pass is out, tell me and go.  If you are called over the PA, take the pass and go.

3)      After class:

a.       I will let you know when you can leave.  Basses and cellos may let me know when it is 2:24.  I will excuse all students from class.

b.      Put your music in the folder, your folder in the rack, and your instrument and bow in the case.  Take all your belongings with you.

c.       At the bell, go directly to the auditorium.  Place your instruments on the 6th grade shelves.  Do not put them

on the floor.

d.      At the end of the school day, come back to the auditorium to get your instrument.  You may take an

orchestra folder home to practice the music; however, you have to bring it back for the next rehearsal.

e.       Your mission this year is to become a fine musician.  Practice at home!
