Why vocabulary tests?
The English language is full of variety-of alternate ways of expressing ideas and seeing the world. By expanding our vocabulary, we can take the first step in heightening our awareness of those alternatives. Ultimately, the greater our understanding of those alternatives, the greater our ability to communicate and appreciate the world around us.
How will it be graded?
You will be responsible for finding definitions and preparing for weekly spelling/vocabulary tests from a list of 200 words. The list is divided into 20 sections of 10 words each. You will be tested on each list on a weekly basis (unless announced otherwise). If you are absent for one of those tests, it is your responsibility to make it up within one week of the test date.
Your grade will be based on a 100 point scale.
Each word will be worth 10 points. You will be required to spell each word correctly, identify its part of speech and definition, as well as provide a sentence that uses the word correctly in context.
