HW POLICY:

Please OPEN, PRINT and RETURN the 1st week of school.

Dear Parents or Guardians,

My name is Monica [Morselli] Klein, and I will be your child's 6th grade Social Studies teacher. You and I will be spending more time with your child in the upcoming school year than any other adult. Because of this, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself- both personally and professionally.

I was born and raised in Islip Terrace. This year will be my 13th year teaching in the district. I have also taught 2 years in a parochial school in Bay Shore. I received my BA in Communications with a minor in Italian from SUNY Oswego. I proudly state that I am a sister of Phi Lambda Phi sorority, and am an active member of our Alumni Association. I received my MS in Elementary Education from Dowling College. I value education so much that I have successfully completed my Masters +75 credits. This means I have taken 75 credits over my Masters degree. Each year, I take 9 credits of courses to remain "fresh." During the summer of 2005, I wrote our 6th grade Social Studies curriculum. I love to learn new concepts and use them with the children. I have three permanent certifications: Pre-K-6th, Italian 7-12, and FLEX Italian Pre-K-6th.
On a personal note, I have traveled to Italy three times, including living in Siena, Italy for five months in 1987, during my spring semester. I have also vacationed in Greece. I enjoy traveling with my husband, spending time with my Maltese, Bailey, taking pictures, reading good novels, and watching movies especially the classics with Audrey Hepburn. I love to watch HGTV, CSI, The Closer, Cold Case, and all the Law & Order shows.
This school year is going to be an exciting one. During Social Studies classes, your child will be introduced to a variety of information dealing with the world: Ancient Times. Your child will engage in differentiated learning activities, which also meet our New York State Standards. They will be doing a lot of writing.
Parents and guardians are the most important people in a child's life, and we need to work together for the benefit of your child. I need you to support my academic, homework and discipline efforts here at school. In return, I will keep you informed about all aspects of your child's experiences at school with a monthly newsletter, which is mailed home to you. With school and home working together, I am confident that each and every student can have his or her most successful school year yet. I am looking forward to meeting you personally at Back-to-School- Night.
