Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death among adults in the United States. This course teaches the newest Red Cross guidelines for performing CPR. The Automated External Defibrillator will be used in class. Students will learn the skills needed to effectively respond in a situation when a heart stops beating. *ARC certification will be given upon successful completion of course and ARC required exam. BAKERY STYLE BUTTER COOKIES : Section 1
Be prepared for your holiday guests, by making your cookies in advance. We will be mixing our dough and piping out perfect butter cookies…yes, the ones sold at the bakery for $16/lb.! You will bring your unbaked cookies home on a disposable cookie sheet and keep in your freezer until you are ready to bake them. How great is that! What you need to bring: 3 sticks unsalted butter (at room temp), ¾ cup sugar, 1 cup confectioner’s sugar, Vanilla extract (you will need 2 tsp.) a kitchen food scale if you have one. **Instructor will provide additional ingredients, tools, equipment, cookie sheets, sprinkles, etc. Materials Fee: $8 per person, will be collected the evening of this class. CALLIGRAPHY : Section 1
Students will learn various calligraphy styles. Each attainable style will be introduced in an historical context and in illustrated demonstrations. We will learn how to use the tools of calligraphy and practice the styles and techniques. Following demonstrations by the instructor, you will copy alphabets and devise contemporary applications for your newfound skill to create personal pieces that relate to any goal you have in mind. Please bring a Fineliner Calligraphy Marker Micro Pen for use during the class. CIZE- HIP-HOP ZUMBA : Section 1
CIZE is truly “the end of exercise.” It’s a new form of dance(hip-hop). The workshop features a music video-like routine, professionally choreographed by Shawn T. To popular songs. Each routine is broken down step by step and builds them into a full dance sequence. So while you’re mastering the dance moves, having fun, you’ll be burning fat and calories. COLLEGE BOARD SAT REVIEW PROGRAM : Section 1
This course is designed for students who wish to raise their S.A.T. scores. Emphasis will be placed on the techniques, review and practice of actual S.A.T. tests. The course offered in the Fall Semester will prepare students for the 11/03/18 exam and the course offered in the Spring Semester will prepare students for the 5/04/19 exam. Register early! In this monthly class you will be given the tools to learn how to empower yourself and in turn empower others. Using mediation and the healing modality of Reiki we will gather to exchange our energy for the good of one another and in turn the universe. Learn symbols and techniques you can perform every day. Various topics will be discussed. I am an intuitive level III Reiki practitioner and have completed all course work under the Usui Reiki Programs. Let’s channel our energy for out highest and greatest good and return heal our bodies and minds. Please wear comfortable clothing. Reiki will be conducting while sitting. An open mind and heart is all that is required. Each student will receive a handout and a crystal to aid in meditation and healing. In this class, we will dance to a variety of music. Pop, Contemporary, Latin & Country, all of which share a common beat. Listening to the beat of the music builds listening skills and rhythm. Learning patterns and sequencing that go to the dance builds coordination and memorization skills. When you put everything together, we have movements and a HEALTHY FUN form of exercise. Have you given up on cake pops? Let me show you my secret cake pop strategy. No gadgets or special cake pop pans required. What you need to bring: 1 baked cake, any flavor (minimum size 8”) and a small container of frosting (homemade or store bought); a small or medium cookie scoop and a container or bowl for holding the cake pop dough. Anyone who has patience and enthusiasm can learn to play piano. You will learn to read music and play at your own pace, while explanations and illustrations make it easy to learn the basic notes and chord patterns used for arranging songs. You can begin to play familiar songs from the first lesson. As you progress through lesson after lesson, you will develop your keyboard skills, discover a true understanding of the piano and learn the various ways a song can be played by using different arrangements. A moderate non-contact introduction to the hottest, most efficient way to burn fat, tone and strengthen your muscles. WORKS IN PROGRESS : Section 1
Artists are drawn to the physical, visual, and symbolic nature of their materials. We will use both figurative and abstract imagery to explore developing a personal visual language and style. With scissors, individuals will learn how to carve and shape paper in ways that add to the illusion of three dimension. Color is the heart of the emotional state, therefore, it influences actions; we will explore its possibilities and power. We will be working with paper, photos, fabric, leaves, magazines, and newspapers and fusing them with paint, glue, thread or tape.
