Timothy Cloonan- Class of 1958

Timothy Cloonan graduated BHS in 1958. He was on the Football, Basketball and Track & Field teams.  He went on to St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and then to the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience. 

After his internship, he was drafted into the United States Army and went to Vietnam serving as a surgeon in the Army Medical Corps.  Among other assignments, he worked at a POW evacuation center in Central Vietnam.  He received the Combat Medical Badge and the Bronze Star.

Upon his return, Tim completed a five year course of study at Indiana University in Diagnostic Radiology.  Tim joined the Air Force in 1986 and rose through the ranks to become Colonel in 1994.  He retired as a full Colonel in 2005.

Tim was Radiology Flight Commander for nine years and oversaw Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Radiation at Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was Radiology Consultant for Region IV which had responsibility for the southeast quarter of the United States.  While at Keesler, Tim introduced cutting-edge Digital Mammography and the Picture Archiving and Retrieval System (PACS). Completely converting the Medical Center to filmless digital Medical Imaging. Now commonplace, this was the first Air Force medical facility to provide this care.

Tim now resides in Arizona with his wife Kate.  They have been married for 52 years and have four children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
